Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
